The Saltire Society Honors are presented to current and past faculty and staff members at La Habra High School whose service has, in a fundamental way, influenced and inspired the lives of students through dedication to their success; whose accomplishment has enriched the community, and whose spirit has contributed to the traditions and educational excellence of La Habra High School. The 2008 Saltire Society Honor was presented March 3rd, 2008.

saltire01.gifThe Honors are named for the Saltire, the national flag of Scotland. Also known as the St. Andrew's Cross, it is the oldest national flag in the world. According to legend, its origins date to 832 AD when King Angus Mac Fergus lead his army against foreign invaders. The night before the battle, Angus prayed to St. Andrew for strength. The next morning, a silvery cross appeared in the sky as the Scots marched onto the field and were victorious. Since then, St. Andrew has been the patron saint of Scotland and his cross or Saltire has symbolized the courage and fortitude of Scots everywhere. It is appropriate that La Habra Highlanders honor their own with this symbol.
